Gold prospecting in the United States began in Cabarrus County, North Carolina over 200 years ago in 1803 after 12 year old Conrad Reed decided to skip church one Sunday in 1799 and an go fishing in the Little Meadow Creek near Georgeville where he found a shinny 17 pound rock. He took the rock home and his family used the unusual yellow rock as a door stop for several years. On a supply trip to Fayetteville, NC Conrad's father decided to take the rock with him to see if anyone knew what it was. A jeweler knew at first sight that it was a large gold nugget. That jeweler purchased it for a small fraction of what it was worth, reportly $3.50. And it became the first documented discovery of gold in the United States.

In 1984 I moved to Mint Hill, North Carolina and visited the Reed Gold Mine site and learned of that first documented discovery of gold in the United States. Little did I realize how that trip would change the rest of my life?

This website is dedicated to the quest for the gold I have had since that introduction to the elusiveness of the bright yellow metal. There are many stories, facts, lies, rumors, and just about everyone is an expert or knows someone who is an expert on the subject. Through the pages of this website you will find some of my experiences sice 1984, I hope that you will enjoy them.

I have a great interest in the subject and enjoy conversing with people about it. Many people have information that helps me locate addition data, information and gold, please drop me an email with any questions or information you might have.
